is now accepting applications for the position of

Jail Nurse (LPN/RN)

GENERAL DUTIES

  1. Exhibits high level of critical thinking skills.
  2. Maintains medical offices to conform to security and correctional health care standards and procedures, as prescribed by the Sheriff and the Bureau of Adult Detention.
  3. Maintains confidentiality and security measures of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
  4. Takes and records patients’ vital signs and renders the appropriate aid.
  5. Applies compresses, ice bags and hot water bottles, etc.
  6. Observes patients and documents reactions to medication or treatment.
  7. R.N. does IV medication administers when ordered, administers specified medications, orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscularly injection, and notes time amount on patients’ charts.
  8. Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing.
  9. Sterilizes equipment and supplies and maintains sanitary conditions.
  10. Examines food trays for prescribed special diets.
  11. Conducts medication rounds and medical evaluations, as required by the Minimum Jail Standards.  Using the “Five Rights,” right patient, right medicine, right dose, right route and right time.
  12. Check incoming prisoners for health problems or serious injuries.
  13. Monitor “high risk” inmates, i.e., intoxicated, suicidal, violent, etc.
  14. Complete Inmate Health Appraisals, as required by the Bureau of Adult Detention.
  15. Assist with physician “sick call” and perform duties required by the physicians.
  16. Document and chart all treatment rendered.
  17. Update medical files and departmental paperwork.
  18. Must exhibit high moral and ethical standards.
  19. Provides general oversight and direction to on duty LPN and paramedic staff

SALARY

Effective January 1, 2022 starting salary is $22.89 per hour for a LPN and $26.03 per hour for a RN. Top step for a LPN is $27.84 per hour and $31.63 for a RN. Top step is achieved in five years.

ABOUT THE CLARK COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE

Clark County is comprised of 403 square miles with a population of 133,000. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office handles approximately 40,000 law enforcement calls for service annually. Our average daily jail population is approximately 220 inmates.  Clark County is home to Wittenberg University and Clark State Community College, as well as several state and local parks, recreational waterways, bike pathway system, art, business and manufacturer centers and open green spaces.  Springfield is the county seat of Clark County and plays host to the Champion City Kings prospect league baseball team.  

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office employs approximately 150 sworn deputies, 30 Communication Operators and 20 civilians. The Office is comprised of four divisions; Criminal Investigations, Uniform Patrol, Jail and Professional Standards. Each division is managed by a division Lieutenant. Three Majors oversee operations of the department with oversight from the Chief Deputy and the elected Sheriff. First line personnel report directly to a Sergeant/Supervisor.   The Fraternal Order of Police is affiliated with agency personnel for contract and labor related matters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be a resident of Clark County, or adjoining county, within one year from date of employment
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Have a high school diploma or GED; College degree preferred
  • Currently possess a valid and current Ohio Nursing License (RN/LPN)
