OLD TAPPAN POLICE DEPARTMENT
POLICE OFFICER
The Old Tappan Police Department is currently seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer.
All applicants for the Old Tappan Police Department must meet the following minimum qualifications to participate in the recruitment process for the entry-level officer position. Failure to meet any of these qualifications will automatically disqualify a candidate from further consideration.
At the time of application, applicants must be:
- Certified in Basic Course for Police Officers by the NJ Police Training Commission (PTC) with less than two (2) years of full-time police experience, or
- Have completed the Alternate Route Basic Course for Police Officers or
- Currently enrolled in a Police Training Commission (PTC) certified New Jersey Academy or
- Certified Class II Officer and meet the requirements by the Police Training Commission to be eligible for a waiver to Basic Course for Police Officers. At least one year from the date of certification.
In addition, at the time of the application, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 18 years of age and less than 35 years of age at the time of appointment;
- Fluent in English
- A licensed driver with a valid New Jersey driver's license at the time of appointment;
- A citizen of the United States and a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment;
- High School degree or equivalent
- 60 college credits from an accredited college or university or an honorable discharge from active duty from any branch of the United States Military
- Must not have been convicted of any crime of the first, second, third, or fourth degree, as designated by the Criminal Code of New Jersey or a crime or felony offense in any jurisdiction that involved moral turpitude or, at the time of application, is undergoing or awaiting court action of any kind in regard.
Additional Requirements:
- Applicant must pass an oral interview,
- Complete and pass an extensive background check,
- Complete and pass a psychological examination,
- Complete and pass a medical examination
- Complete and pass a complete drug and alcohol screening.
