Communications Officer/Dispatcher
Egg Harbor Township Police Department is hiring Full and Part-time Public Safety Dispatchers. Preference is given to Egg Harbor Township residents. Applicants must hold New Jersey certifications as a 911 Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD). We are an equal opportunity employer.

Job Description
The Communications Officer is under the direction of the Communications Supervisor, receives citizen and field personnel telephone complaints and telephone requests for police, fire and emergency medical services and assistance; processes messages and refers same to appropriate police, fire and emergency medical services personnel for action. Other related duties include the following functions:
1. Receives direct citizen telephone complaints and telephone requests for police assistance, and may simultaneously enter the information into the computer style keyboard and computer aided dispatch system.
2. Determines the nature of the call and initiates action by making CAD entry or pertinent media noting time of call, details of complaint, classification of complaint and forwards to the appropriate police personnel or to the appropriate fire and emergency medical service agency for action.
3. Collates dispatch actions, and records same on proper forms for police, fire, and EMS.
4. Receives requests for name checks and/or license number checks from police field personnel, and processes requests through the NCIC and local base.
5. Completes necessary records and files relative to these calls.
6. Forwards, upon citizen request, certain routine, repetitive, and cleared information, and forwards requests for classified information to proper police section.
7. Maintains an assuring and calming attitude during periods of stress and emergency.
8. Ascertains proper addresses and information to avoid unnecessary delays for police responses.
9. Screens calls to initiate proper chain of action.
10. Maintains all necessary records and files.
11. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Preference to Egg Harbor Township Residents
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
- Must pass a written examination.
- Must pass a typing indicator test.
- Must possess State Emergency Medical Dispatch and 911 Dispatch certifications (or will become certified in the near
- future).*
- Must be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation
- Must pass an oral interview with the commander of the Police & Community Services Bureau.
- Must be able to work shift work.
