Job Announcement:
TOWN OF TRUMBULL
DISPATCHER (PART TIME)
Salary: $23.89/hourly
Work Days: Various Part Time Shifts Available - Saturday/Sunday - (8 hours each day for Saturday and Sunday); Evening shifts (4:00 PM to 12:00 AM) and/or Per Diem shifts. Option for flexibility to swap or change shifts and fill in at times on other shifts.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
- Receives routine and emergency calls by telephone and determines the appropriate action for call routing, notifications, or dispatch of emergency services.
- Acts as radio dispatcher transmitting police, fire and EMS messages by radio.
- Establishes dispatch priorities based upon the nature of the request for services, availability of personnel, and other pertinent information.
- In the absence of desk officers, is responsible for deployment of police personnel in the field.
- Notifies proper authority at all levels regarding emergencies, according to policy.
- Types daily log entries and related reports using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Operates computerized records systems in accordance with policy and confidentiality standards.
- Performs a variety of report writing, record keeping and filing as needed.
- Assists the public, town departments, and other agencies in matters relating to the office, in person and on the telephone.
- Performs related tasks as assigned.
- Maintains confidentiality, as required by department policy.
- Will be cross-trained as determined by departmental needs and will assist in training others.
- Performs search and escort duties as needed (Matron Duty for females only).
- Attends training, as needed, to maintain skills and certifications.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the direction of the Police Chief or his/her designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of office procedures and principles of office management and or record keeping
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Clear and concise written and oral expression
- Accuracy and attention to details
- Ability to respond courteously to the public
- Ability to learn appropriate State laws, Town ordinances, and department policies
- Availability to work all shifts on a 24-hour basis, holidays and weekends, on varying schedules, when necessary.
- Basic knowledge of computer operation and typing ability
- Ability to successfully pass a background investigation, including criminal history screening
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- High school graduate or GED
- At least two (2) years’ experience as emergency services dispatcher with experience using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. NEXGEN/LEAS experience preferred.
