The New Shoreham Police Department

is now hiring for entry level and lateral transfer Police Officers.

We are a small island department located 13 miles from the Rhode Island coastline. Our department has a strong focus on community policing and engagement. The island has a year-round population of about 900 residents. During the summer tourist season the island can see in excess of 20,000 people a day.

Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • 21 years of age
  • Valid drivers license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must also be in excellent physical health and be able to pass a physical agility test along with a written exam.

 

Salary and Benefits:

  • $69,749 Base salary. $70,984 beginning July 1,2024.
  • Holidays: 12 1/2 days per year
  • Personal days: 3 1/2 days per year
  • Sick days: 1 day accrual per month
  • Longevity pay 4% after year 5 up to 7%
  • Deferred compensation - 457 Plan
  • Blue Cross and Blue shield/ Delta dental
  • Affordable housing: Brand new rental units $900 per month for 2 bedrooms, $700 per month for 1 bedroom, plus utilities.

 

Testing Requirements:

  • Physical fitness test- Schedule through Fit2Serve.
  • Written examination - Schedule through Fit2Serve.
