The Tenafly Police Department is looking for qualified candidates to join our agency.
NJSACOP Written Exam: Tuesday, October 22, 2024 6:00PM at Tenafly High School
Physical Assessment: Saturday, October 19, 2024 7:00AM at Tenafly Middle School
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The general qualifications for employment with the Tenafly Police Department are:
- Must be a United States citizen and resident of the State of New Jersey, pursuant to NJSA 40A:14-122.8;
- Have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License upon appointment;
- Age of not less than 21 and no more than 35 years upon appointment, pursuant to NJSA 40A:14-127;
- Candidates must also meet the following educational, military, and/or employment experience requirements upon appointment:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; OR
- Minimum of 24 months Active Duty military experience with an honorable discharge; OR
- Associate’s Degree (or an equivalent of 60 college credits completed) PLUS a minimum of 24 months of satisfactory military service with honorable discharge, or 24 months of satisfactory sworn law enforcement experience.
- Candidates must possess excellent moral character and a strong work ethic;
- Candidates must be in good mental and bodily health, and pass medical and psychological exams; Candidates must pass a thorough background check, and be free from conviction of any crime;
- Candidates must serve a probationary period after completion of a basic police training course at a recognized training academy.
Current starting salary for academy recruits is $51,866 per year plus full health benefits. Upon graduation from the police academy, sworn police officers earn $58,027 per year with annual increases to a maximum $169,786 per year after 12 years. There is a $100.00 non-refundable fee to submit your application and participate in the exam. Top 100 applicants who pass all stages of the physical agility testing (utilizing “Cooper Standard for Law Enforcement Physical Assessment”) on Saturday, October 19, 2024 will be invited to participate in the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Written Exam on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
