Full Time Sworn Police Officer (Entry or Lateral)

Minimum Qualifications 

1. Eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment;
2. Posses a high school diploma or equivalent;
3. Ability to perform the various requirements demanded by the nature of police work;
4. Be a citizen of the United States of America;
5. Be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation;
6. Posses a valid driver’s license from their State of residency at time of application and have no restrictions or traffic infractions which would preclude obtaining a Montana driver’s license immediately upon appointment.
7. Lateral applicants must possess a valid POST certificate.

Job Description/ General Duties

Performs patrol duties and technical law enforcement and security work in enforcing federal, state and local laws to provide for the safety and well-being of life and property.

Salary

Entry Level Salary $26.88/hr. Shift Differential $1/hr for night shifts. Annual longevity 1% per year, step increases of 3% at 4 years, 2% at 8 and 12 years, and 3% at 16 years of service. Per the collective bargaining agreement, officers receive a pay adjustment according to the consumer price index of that year. This typically occurs in July of each year.  A lateral transfer. possessing a valid P.O.S.T. in good standing. may be hired at a pay level greater than the entry level up to a maximum level of 4 years of service credit ($28.81/hr).

Testing Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to pass the Montana Physical Abilities Test (MPAT). A written Stanard and Associates Police Officer Selection Test with a 70% in each section.

Hiring Process

After testing, a successful applicant must complete an oral interview, pass a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical examination.
