Entry-Level Police Officer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direction of a superior officer, protects lives and property of citizens.  Provides services to the Public and maintains the peace, protects the rights of persons and property, and enforces all laws and ordinances coming under the jurisdiction of the Police Department.  Under normal conditions, interacts with the public in a congenial and positive manner. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Entry-Level Police Officer)

• High School Diploma or GED
• 21 Years Old or Older
• Citizen of the United States
• Valid Motor Vehicle Operators License
• Absolutely:
  
  • “NO” Felony Convictions
  • “NO” Domestic Violence Convictions
  • “NO” A and/or B Misdemeanor Convictions
• Successfully Pass an Extensive Background Investigation
• Polygraph Examination
• Psychological Examination
• Drug Screening
• Physical Agility Test

 

EXAMINATION: 

Open to all applicants who meet the above qualifications and have taken the Law Enforcement Council written exam within the last year.  The examination process will consist of rating your training and experience, a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof.  It will also include a physical agility test, a drug test, a background investigation, a polygraph examination, a psychological examination, an interview with the Chief of Police, a physical exam, and a working test/probationary period of one year.  All parts of examination are designed to determine the ability of applicants to learn and perform the duties of a Police Officer in a multi-culturally diverse environment.  This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, municipal laws, rules and regulations.
