ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Fairfield Connecticut Police Department.  In 1930 a town ordinance established the Police Department consisting of seven officers. Today the sworn and non-sworn staff of the department number about 230 employees.  For the men and women of the police department our mission hasn’t changed much since the 1930’s. Quite simply, we exist to make Fairfield safer, we always have and always will.  We are committed to our mission and remain ever vigilant in our service to the residents and visitors of the Town of Fairfield.  Remember though, we can’t do it alone.

The Fairfield Police Department currently employs 108 sworn officers, 100 authorized Special Agents, 15 Telecommunicators , 4 Animal Control officers, 7 Marina Guards, 6 full-time and several part-time civilian personnel. 

The department has is organized into several divisions/bureaus, each performing separate and vital functions within the department. 

Field Services Bureau:

  • Patrol Division:  Uniformed officers, K9 Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Crisis Intervention Team, Field Training Officers, Bicycle Unit, Motorcycle Unit.
     
  • Investigation Division:  Detective Bureau, Narcotics Unit, Burglary Squad, Domestic Violence Coordinator, School Safety Unit, Fingerprinting, and permits.
     
  • Special Services Division:  Accident Investigation, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Marine Unit, Dive Team, Animal Control, Special Traffic Agents, Marina Guards, School Crossing Guards, Vehicle/Fleet Management, and Parking Tickets.

Administrative Services Bureau: 

Includes Records/Property (Evidence) Management, Training Division, Information Technology, Emergency Communications Center, Outside Job Services, Special Events Coordination and other Administrative functions.

Professional Standards: 

This office is responsible for State Accreditation, review and management of Department Policy & Procedures, civilian complaints and internal affairs investigations.

Public Affairs: 

This office handles media/press releases, Neighborhood Watch and various community programs.
